Zach Bellas
Zach Bellas is a three-piece rock band currently based in Baltimore, Maryland, and named after its frontman - American musician, producer, and founder of the independent recording label SMB Records. Zach Bellas features Tom McAteer on drums, Kyle Hadley on bass and backing vocals & Zach Bellas on guitar and vocals. Since beginning his professional music career in 2008, Bellas has performed over 1,000 shows all across the USA and internationally, including touring in support of great bands such as Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, and Flogging Molly. He has also produced and released seven full-length albums, an EP, and several singles through his label, including some key collaborations with Hall of Famer Junior Marvin from Bob Marley and The Wailers, Jean-Paul Gaster from Clutch, and legendary producer Don Zientara.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
I love it all. I love touring and performing live and getting to see people's reactions to the music up close. I love writing and working on songs for months trying to make them the best they can be. I love being in a really nice studio and getting to hear music in it's purest form. All of it presents challenges, but I love it all dearly.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
It usually moves pretty quickly. We run into problems now and then, but we usually can get things accomplished fast. We try to keep it very comfortable in the studio as well. Home cooked meals, lots of coffee, and lots of jokes.
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
On a perfect day, I'm just outside somewhere where the weather is nice. I like exploring new places and meeting new people.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
Diddy has been a long time mentor for me. John Mayer is someone I've started to look up to recently as well. RZA too. All brilliant people.
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
Probably '10,000 Years Ago' on our new album. It digs pretty deep and is very introspective. The song takes a very serious look at the sources of unhappiness and the complications of today's world.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
We just released an album on April 30th that we have been trying to get out for awhile now. Mainly, we are excited to get back out on the road, touring. We have been getting out a little bit recently as Covid restrictions lighten up, but we have some great shows planned for the summer and a full US tour planned for the fall. Can't wait!
