A chance encounter at Cook Children’s Medical Center is all it took to set ToddBarrow on his mission to revamp classic country with his signature modern twist. One day, an American Idol contestant was slated to perform for the patients at Todd's place of employment, but the audio tech was nowhere to be found. When he heard the call, “Can anybody here run sound?” Todd answered. In walked, Texas Music Hall of Fame honoree, Sonny Burgess, just as Todd was setting up the live rig, and the two musicians struck up a conversation. Sonny told Todd about his work with Charlie Pride and Randy Travis, and asked Todd if he might lend his technical skills to help build the recording studio sponsored by Garth Brooks and Troy Aikman he that had in the works. This serendipitous encounter yielded a coffee meeting to review the blueprints for the project, and before long, Sonny was meeting Todd for coffee weekly to discuss music. Eventually, he became Todd’s mentor, forever changing the course of Todd’s career.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!
For fans who have never heard my music these three words describe my sound. I would say adventurous, energetic and heartfelt. Along the lines of getting the message across to listeners.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
This could be a long list but I would say of mixture of all of the above. Writing the song and preparing for production stage. Recording is very exciting to me as well as performing in front of a live audience.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
I refer to a recording studio as a music lab. Exploring new possibilities with musicians, producers and engineers. Bringing the song to life!
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
I have many hobbies outside of the music thing. Enjoy hunting fishing, binge watching on HBO max, Hulu or Netflix. Water sports are a must during the summertime.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
I most admire my friends with 38 special band. Incredible musicians who love to play rock-n-roll. Became popular in the 80’s and still rock with the best of them.
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
My most recent release is my favorite one of all. Point of no return is a very emotional tune. Also ties to California/their lifestyle. Wrote the song describing my brother's venture in CA.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
New material is coming in the year of 2021. In the works to produce more super country hits!!!
