The Lethargics

Welcome to Behind the Song, where we uncover the musical tapestries woven by extraordinary independent artists. In this exclusive interview, we're embarking on a sonic journey with The Lethargics, a band that boldly stakes its claim in the uncharted realms of Rock & Roll. Hailing from the rugged hills and landscapes of Appalachia, The Lethargics bring a fresh perspective. With a sound that effortlessly blends Rock, Blues, Punk, Country, Folk, and Americana, they stand as a testament to the boundless possibilities within the genre. Join us as we delve into their music, exploring their favorite aspects of being artists, the inner workings of the recording studio, and the stories behind their songs. With influences spanning generations, from the timeless Bob Dylan to the fearless truth-teller Jason Isbell, The Lethargics are carving their unique path in the music scene. For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough, then tell us more.

Honest. Clear-eyed. Compassionate.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else? Tell us why.

Using whatever you have to create a song that expresses what you feel.

Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?

Depending on where the song is in the process - and how that process is playing out - it can be frustrating, intense, exciting, joyful. It is somewhat like a parallel universe.

Okay, this is a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?

Trying to provide a place for all creatures to live out their lives. Except maybe ticks.

Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?

It's hard not to put Dylan at the top, simply because he's seemingly always done exactly what his musical instincts tell him. And Jason Isbell for his fearlessness in expressing truths in a world that doesn't want to hear them.

Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?

At this point, probably "Shelter In Place," which is about forever being judged and found lacking, of never truly having a chance at the prize - even if you exhaust yourself chasing everything they promise, the target keeps moving and another catastrophic storm is always coming. It is a very meaningful song for us, but also one that we hope is relatable for people of similar experience and circumstance.

Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?

We have a single, "Align," releasing in November that is likely to be viewed as quite a musical departure for the Lethargics. We have a few more in the can that will start showing up after the first of the year - assuming we haven't gone so far in debt that we have to assume new identities and go on the run!

Tell us where fans can access your music.

About The Lethargics: The Lethargics' music stakes claim and establishes residence in the abandoned and undiscovered music landscapes of what Rock & Roll can be.

Born in the hard beauty of the hills and hollers of Appalachia…steeped in the histories and mysteries of Rock, Blues, Punk, Country, Folk, and Americana…

the lethargics are simply not like any band you’ve ever heard before.
