Behind the Song
Stephanie Phillips

For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! emotional soulful authentic
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else? I love all the aspects about being an artist. Writing and performing probably tie for most favorite, but I enjoy recording too. Writing and performing are what feed my soul, what makes me feel alive. Recording is fun as long as I'm not the one doing all the studio stuff, as I'm just learning that part and it stresses me out. Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you? When I'm in the studio ( and all I have to do is show up with my guitar and perform), it always feels like a singular experience. It's hard to describe, but each time I do it, it feels like the first time. There's something special about each recording session.
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? I teach yoga, and I'm a personal trainer, so I love all things fitness. I also enjoy reading, knitting, and baking. Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why? I think Ed Sheeran has done a fantastic job of evolving in his musical style. Although I still love his acoustic folk sound, his newer more pop stuff is also really good. I also adore Sara Bareilles for her unique sound and writing style. Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? Haha! This question makes me laugh, because most of my songs are emotional, so it's a long list. But, the title song of my latest album which is probably the most emotional is called "What Have I Lost?". It explains the way I was feeling right after my divorce, one of the hardest times in my life.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?

I am always writing new songs! I hope to release a couple singles in the coming months (before the year is up) that I wrote, performed, and recorded myself. I am still learning the recording process, so it's a bit of a stretch for me. But, I think I'm up to the challenge! Can you give us a few places where fans can find your music?
