Behind the Song
Scott & Sabrina

Scott & Sabrina are an inspiring couple of singers, songwriters, multi-talented musicians, and traveling recording artists that perform unique covers of a variety of genres as well as their fresh original music. Described as “modern country” with some pop, rock, and a little hip hop influence, this duo knows how to rock a crowd! Scott & Sabrina’s music can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, Pandora, and more.
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Music has always inspired me in different ways as a kid, and usually there was a song for everything I went through or wanted to go through. I think once I experienced my first "real" relationship as a teenager, I realized I had my own words to say. Instead of turning on the radio, I started picking up my guitar, or sitting at my mom's piano.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
We were scheduled to play at a Country Music Festival with Headliners such as Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, etc... We asked EVERYONE we could how to get to the back of the stage to get ready to set up, and no one knew. So we drove around back and found the back of the stage but it was chain linked all the way around. So we cut the chain link fence, drove in, unloaded and set up and played our show. That's the only time we ever had to break in to our own concert!
What has been the high point of your music path?
For the both of us, it was meeting each other! For me (Scott), with as many accomplishments I had achieved musically before I met Sabrina, I never felt like I was truly heading in the right direction with my career.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
It kind of goes like this: It's 3 Am and all of a sudden lyrics or melody will randomly come to me. I'm driving down the road and a catch phrase comes to mind so I sing it over and over until I can write it down or record it. Or once, Sabrina jokingly said to me, "OMG You should totally write me a song!" - In a silly "Ditzy Fan Girl" voice, and within an hour I had written "Home."
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
The biggest challenge we feel would be just trying to be heard. We would ask the industry just for the opportunity to be able to showcase an original song without having to drive to Nashville, or pay entry fees to contests, etc.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
As of right now, Lady A, or Morgan Wallen, would be amazing to share a stage with! Lady A because of our similarities and also our differences would go good together. Morgan Wallen because of how much his music speaks to us!
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
When we are with the band, we are lucky to even get a rehearsal at all unfortunately, but when it's just the duo well.. We will usually go over any new songs a few times, make sure all of our sound equipment is working properly (because we run our own sound), and plan for logistics for traveling.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
The title track, "Blessed" on our recent EP, was the most challenging song to write because I (Scott), wrote the lyrics from Sabrina's perspective, and had never written in that manner before. I was nervous for her to read it, at first, because I didn't want to misinterpret her feelings.
What's coming up in the future?
A lot! We are continually writing and recording in our home studio, while performing weekly locally and regionally, and have a trip to Nashville in the works. We hope to release a full length album soon!
