Scott Dawson

Scott Dawson is a happily married father of three and a traditional country music singer/songwriter with aspirations of singing on the Grand Ole Opry.

For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!

Traditional. Country. Music.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.

Being an artist is rewarding on so many levels. The ability to write original material, enter a recording studio and bring your ideas to life and proceed to sing your material for people who genuinely enjoy what you do is immeasurably joyful. You are literally giving a part of yourself to others who gladly receive it.

Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?

Magical. The most important piece of advice I would give to an artist entering the studio for the first time would be this: Be prepared. Once the studio clock starts ticking, your money is being spent. The studio is no place for rehearsal, writing, editing or contemplating. This is your homework before ever booking a studio, producer, engineer and musicians. The studio is the place where creativity thrives but only on the solid foundation of your preparation. You never want everyone sitting idle while you spend time doing stuff you should have done beforehand. You'll run out of funds and your project will be delayed or unfinished.

Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy spending time with my family.

Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?

I admire Alan Jackson. Despite many changes in Nashville and the various styles of country music that come and go, Alan has stayed true to his traditional country roots.

Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?

Probably "Bittersweet Saturday". Even though it is fictional, I had to get in the mindset of a widower who is attending his only daughters high school graduation and later her marriage. Then finally he attends the funeral of his father. All of these events occur on a Saturday.

Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?

I have just completed and released my fourth CD of original songs called "Strum". I have been busy writing material for this project over the past two years so now I'm putting my efforts toward promoting it.
