Robert E Flynn III is a software-developer, author and musician from San Antonio, TX. He has spent his entire life pursuing creative endeavors. Music was his first love and still is, and writing was always part of his life. Robert lived in Austin, Texas for many years and was part of the music scene. He was a member of several bands during those days and tremendously enjoyed playing live in many venues in the music rich area. Currently, Robert lives with his beautiful fiancé, Claudia, whose delightful, positive outlook on life has given him the motivation to finish this work. He has two wonderful children, Caitlin and Zachary, who are grown and exploring their own fantastic lives.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!
Real, honest and powerful. I think these words describe what I am after always!
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
My favorite part about being an artist is actually the process of learning and growing musically. Songwriting, performing, recording and other aspects of being a musician are all extremely satisfying. A lot of work that brings a lot of reward. But the best of all is becoming better! Watching my musical persona change and evolve has been the most fulfilling for me.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
I would live in the recording studio if I could afford it. To me, being in a recording studio is the only way to get work done. Having the ability to record snippets of ideas to refer back to can be a magical device for crafting songs. It is good to have more preparation if you are on a budget, but if you have the money to spare, just setting up camp in the studio is priceless!
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy creative writing (short stories and novels). I enjoy outdoor activities of all sorts, especially being on the water and fishing! I enjoy listening to music and concerts and I also enjoy hopping in the car for a road trip with ZZTop blasting out the windows!
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
I love all the classic rock bands and I love the independent artists out there on Soundcloud and other platforms. I admire people like Byron William Harris, for what he is doing and what he is building. The independent artists out there will reshape the music world for the future!
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
My newest song, "Night Of The Living Dead", was my greatest challenge in songwriting because I was struggling to find the music to match the intent of the lyric. This song is about the riots during the summer of 2020, which affected me deeply and the lyrics for the song came to me with ease and emotion. The music to match the lyrics was difficult because I wanted the listener to feel uneasy in some respects while listening to it. Once I crafted the basic chordal movement, I still had the challenge of finding ways to add more elements of sound that would accentuate the feelings that these riots evoked in my mind. The meaning of the song is simple - if we let evil into our hearts, our light will be stolen and we will become the "Living Dead".
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
I am working on new material all the time and I plan on being in the recording studio as much as my budget will allow. I have enough material for my album release, which will hopefully be towards the end of the year!
