Behind the Song
Luke Judy

Step into the vibrant world of Luke Judy, one-half of the talented duo known as Duplexity. With their music often described as fun, youthful, and eclectic, Duplexity is making waves in the music scene. In this exclusive interview, we'll explore Luke's journey as an artist, his favorite aspects of the creative process, and the emotional depth of their music. From commanding audiences on stage to the joys of the recording studio, Luke shares his passion and enthusiasm for music. For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough, then tell us more! If I had to pick just three words to describe our music, I would have to say: Fun, Youthful and eclectic. I choose these because, we are very young, we have so much fun making the music and performing it and hope that extends to our fans when listening to it. Eclectic because, we don't have just one sound, or type. We love so many genres. On our debut EP ‘Billboards’ we have several different styles and sounds.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else? Tell us why: My absolute favorite part about being an artist other than the actual music itself, is performing live! There is nothing like commanding a audience and playing your music on stage. It is my happy place!! I cannot wait until I get to do it most days!
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you? For me, the studio is a creative playground. I love being in the studio with our amazing team! Vocal days are my personal favorite step of piecing a song together. This is when I can really feel what the song is going to be!
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? When I am not doing music I really enjoy playing guitar hero with my sister, Savannah. We just recently got all of the instruments for it so it is a super fun thing to do when friends come over or when we’re hanging out just the two of us. I am also a very big fan of swimming in the pool and chilling on the couch watching TV.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why? I really admire Post Malone. His music is eclectic and really moving, you can tell he has a ton of emotions when he is singing. He is an amazing storyteller and really makes you feel things when you are listening to his music, I’ve been a fan of his ever since he did the Nirvana tribute back in 2020!
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? The most emotional song we’ve written is definitely demons. The song is about someone who is struggling with their intrusive thoughts and mental health. We wrote this song because we wanted a song that everyone could relate to, why not write about raw human emotions that people experience every day instead of ignoring them or be embarrassed. Everyone has high and low days; we need to normalize this and strip away the “everyone needs to be perfect’ stigma.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year? We are finalizing 5 more original songs. Our goal is to release a sophomore EP by The summer of 2024.We have a few videos we have made and will also be releasing them throughout 2024. I am always ready to make more music!

About Duplexity:

Duplexity is an Indie Rock duo from Beverly Hills, CA. Formed by teen siblings Savannah Judy 17 and Luke Judy 16. Luke and Savannah have been performing their whole lives but recently decided to take their talents into the studio and create their original sound. The music is inspired by 90’s alternative rock sometimes channeling a hint of metal mixed to have a modern feel. Their debut single “Billboards” is a nod to their 10 year child actor journey they started when moving to LA for acting opportunities. Their first EP is set to be released in October ’23 and will be an upbeat coming of age collection of songs that will speak to fellow Gen Z-ers. Both Savannah and Luke are accomplished singers who take turns on lead vocals while performing with a live band. Coming from a musical family Savannah is a bassist and they both play guitar among other instruments.
