Jamar

JAMAR is a 20 year old Filipino/African American, RnB/Pop singer/songwriter based in San Diego, CA. His influences range from RnB, Pop, and Hip Hop JAMAR takes inspiration from artists like Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, BLXST, Kehlani, Usher, Bruno Mars, and Justin Bieber. For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!

I had to describe my music in three words it would probably be catchy, relatable, and real. All of my music is based on my own personal experiences and experiences of people close to me that ironically a lot of other people relate to. I take what I've been through and I describe it through catchy songs that others can connect with too.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why. My favorite part about being an artist is being able to see my work come to life from scratch. A lot of times the people that listen to my work or other artist's work only hear/see the final product, but there is something so satisfying and rewarding seeing each step unfold to create something you're really proud of.

Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you? It's been a minute since I've been in a real studio due to the pandemic, but there's not much of a difference for me at least when it comes to recoding in a studio or recording at home in my room. I usually go in with an open mind cause you never know what the final outcome is going to be. There's usually a lot of takes in making sure I have the best vocal. Sometimes I'll change up the lyrics if I think there's a better fit and even sometimes change the melody if I come up with something that sounds better. I can literally be recording all day just to get the best takes.

Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? I'm actually a full time college student at the University of California, Riverside. I'm a Psychology Major so if I'm not doing music I'm either doing school work or also dancing because I am also on a collegiate dance team called 909. If I'm not doing any of those am either eating, sleeping, hanging out with friends, or on tiktok.

Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why? There are so many people in the music scene that I look up to. Artists like Giveon, Billie Eilish, Kehlani, HER, SZA, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, LIZZO, Harry Styles and more. Honestly anyone who is constantly putting in that work, making history, and shifting the idea of success and what it takes to be in the music industry is someone I look up to.

Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? Three songs I've written come to mind when I hear most emotional. The first one is actually only on my soundcloud called "I Wanna Be" and the production is so bad because I recorded it in high school with just my ukulele and garageband, but for some reason it has over 37 thousand plays (honestly any of my old high school songs on soundcloud are sad). Another one would be a song I co-wrote with a talented friend of mine Marian Mulock called "One for you" and then the last one would be a song called "Remember U" on my EP. All three songs describe the feeling of no longer being in someones life and constantly still not being over them.

Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year? Yes! I'm constantly working on new music and want to incorporate more visuals for each project; as well as, start collaborating and featuring other artists in future projects!
