Behind the Song
ihatekaye

17 year old Californian ihatekaye is a rising Rockstar who successfully blends rock/alt, hyper pop, and orchestral influences into a cohesive distinctive sound while subtly paying tribute to some of his favorite emo rap artists. His sound can best be described as a strangely harmonious yet electrifying declaration of anger, pain, love, and clarity. It serves as a war cry to anyone who struggles with facing their inner darkness. “Incase" is just the beginning of ihatekaye’s emotional musical exploration. After a rough few years, this poetic artist is ready to tell his story through his impending Rich Heart Records debut, a six track visual E.P. chronicling his journey through self actualization while battling grief and addiction, overcoming mental health challenges, and, of course, freeing himself from toxic love.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!
So much pain. That's exactly how I'd describe my music to someone who hasn't heard it before.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
My favorite part of being an artist is being in the studio especially the booth. There is no other feeling like it in the whole world. Getting in the booth for the first time of the day is like getting to kiss your crush after liking them for ages. 100% favorite thing in the world is being in the studio.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
Being in the studio with me is kinda unpredictable. We always set up then start going through beats or making beats to record on for the day but after we pick the beats we just smoked and vibe together to get a good vibe in the studio then we get to recording.
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
When I'm not doing music, I'm just at home either hanging with some friends or playing video games with my music friends. I really don't do much - I just keep to myself and push on.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
Koshi. 100%. Koshi is the hardest working and most talented mother f***er i have ever met in my entire life, but he's also beyond humble and laid back. He taught me damn near everything I know, but if you asked him he’d just say he helped me a little. Koshi my brother for life.
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
My most emotional song is called another shitty love song. It's unreleased and probably always will be. I was going through some relationship shit at the time and just kinda let it all out on that song.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
I'm always working on new shit, but coming up soon this year is a 6 track visual EP with a long ass video with all 6 songs in one video.
Tell us where fans can access your music.
