Happy Curmudgeons

In 2015, Dave Hamilton formed the Happy Curmudgeons which was initially comprised of four founding members: Dave Hamilton, Amy Dixon-Lavery, Jeff Warner, and Tumbleweed. Over time, the band has augmented its sound by collaborating with renowned studio musicians such as Billy Cox from the Band of Gypsys and Bobby Balderrama from Question Mark & The Mysterians. Additionally, the band has benefitted from the expertise of Mark Byerly, a Bob Seger Band member and Justin Timberlake collaborator, who serves as their producer.

For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! Eclectic, Soulful, and Spiritual (in a feel-good about yourself way). We put our love, thoughts, and energy into our music. Each song is a story and we want the listener to come along for the ride.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, or something else? Creativity and expressing yourself through music. You can touch so many people with the magic of music. It can be a truly healing experience

Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you? Our producer, Mark Byerly, has been an extra member of the Happy Curmudgeons. It is a sheer joy to work with a brother that wants you to succeed. The studio is a haven to make thoughts and experiments come to life. It is always exciting to get to the studio and leave with something that matters

Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? Listening to other musicians, watching documentaries, reading, and enjoying art.

Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why? The music scene has a lot of artists that can be seen on social media. Most artists can get their art out in some form without being told what to do by a manager or a label. Artists today are free to create their music & identity.

Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? Rustic Glory was very emotional. I wrote Rustic Glory while my dad was fighting his last battle. He was a kidney transplant recipient that lived an extra decade thanks to the kindness of a donor. He passed away in 2022 and Rustic Glory is a song to honor him and my grandfathers in a positive way. They all would take me on adventures that I am very grateful for now. Always take time to say I love you to those who know, but should hear the words from you.

Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year? It has been a long time coming, but our second album should be finished by the end of 2023. Our second album will be titled, 2nd Chances. We have been releasing songs from the album as singles. We want to put everything together and release them on vinyl as well as digital platforms. I can tell you the next singles will be titled Nostalgia and Be Kind.
