Happy Curmudgeons
The Happy Curmudgeons are a group of musicians mainly based in the metro Detroit area. Their music features some very special guests on different tracks. Dave Hamilton founded the band in 2015 with the other three core members - Amy Dixon-Lavery, Jeff Warner & Tumbleweed. The band won a 2020 W.A.M. Best Song music award for 2nd Chances in the American/folk category. The Happy Curmudgeons also finished second in the same category with their song, I Know How You Feel, last year. The band is continuing to work with the producer, Mark Byerly. The Happy Curmudgeons hope to have their 2nd album by the end of 2022.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough, then tell us more!!
Eclectic, Soulful and Real. We want to get inside the musical note and expose the spiritual side. Music has amazing healing power and we want to tap into that core.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
We love music! I can not imagine how life would not be with music. It can heal, bring us together, create celebrations, console us in dark times. Music is truly universal.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
Well, most of the time we record in shifts.
I finish a demo and it serves like the foundation. We work with that foundation until we have something more solid and build from there.
Okay, this is a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
When I am not doing music, I enjoy listening to other kinds of music. I love seeing live shows and what other artists bring to the table.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
I really admire the creativity and bond. It is amazing to see a group find that chemistry live and take energy from a crowd and transform it into something meaningful and soulful.
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
Rustic Glory, our new single, is my most emotional song to date. The song is about loss, happiness & remembrance. I wrote the song for my father who passed away in May of this year. It was a song to remember special times and to be thankful for the encouragement he gave me along the way. His support of my music helped my finish "Rustic Glory."
Are you working on any new material right now, or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Yes, we are working on new songs to complete our second album - 2nd Chances. Rustic Glory was just released in July in support of that project. We also have another song, ALL ON YOU, that should be ready for release sometime in September.
