Between Giants is comprised of lead singer and lone guitarist Tyler John, keyboardist Hans Massaquoi, and drummer Pat Williams. The three blend their unique styles and influences to craft a sophisticated coalescence of part punch you in the face gritty indie-rock, and part infectious summer ready pop tunes. This versatility within their composition and production has brought the boys local and national attention while highlighting their versatility as songwriters and producers.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!
Yoooo! This is Tyler btw, the lead singer of BG. Thanks for having me, stoked to be here. Ahhh I suck at answering this question; I usually describe our stuff as sad rock music you can dance to. But I asked my dad for three words because I'm on the phone with him right now. He said: "motivational, uplifting and raw" (????) I personally wouldn't have said raw, but I like him so there u have it. Tell your friends
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
For me it's writing and performing. I write to process stuff so that is definitely needed for my mental state lol, and as for performing nothing beats that. It is what keeps me going when the DIY grind gets to be too much.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
A whole VIBE!!!! We got drinks, our main engineer Mclee always has some deep government secrets to drop on us, I am usually at minimum 2 hours late and yeah it is just a great time. So much creativity and openness to new ideas. Love collabing with everyone there. It really is electric.
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
I have a true crime podcast I do which is super fun - I also am teaching myself the drums right now so that eats a lot of my time that I'm not working writing or reading. I feel like I need some edgier hobbies...
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
Gonna sound like an emo Tumblr girl from 2013, but Matty Healy from the 1975. Been worshipping that band for years, and will never not be impressed by their ability to adapt sonically and front major social justice issues. Love them
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
Of the ones that are out right now it would be 'Nauseous' for sure off this last double release. My lyrics are always very personal to me, but I was able to belt them out with my voice this time during the outdo and really feel the power of the words I wrote. Took me back to the moment
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Trying to keep making this pandemic work for us! We just did our first virtual full electric livestream show from an actual venue here in NYC and it was amazing. Going to try and do a few more of those, as well as keep putting out our best music for people to vibe with. Maybe a record if Hans stops playing hard to get. But you can count on
