Anika
Anika is a pop recording artist from Laguna Beach, California with something important to say. Anika made her debut with her hit song "Are You Down" and has since followed it up with "Make Me Wanna." The release of her first EP, "Anika," will be on August 4th! Anika's love for music started when she was young and her songwriting reflects the Gen-Z experience, but with old and new school influences like Queen, ABBA, and Bruno Mars. A versatile pop artist, Anika works with critically acclaimed Music Producer Mark Vogel to create songs in a variety of pop styles.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! The words I would use to describe my music are authentic, compelling, and fun to listen to!
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else? Tell us why. My favorite part about being an artist has to be recording. Hearing my songs come together from just a small idea is so rewarding every time. One of the cool parts about recording for me is that a lot of the time I will go in thinking the song will sound one way, and by the time I'm done it's a completely different song!
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you? Being in the recording studio is so fun! I get along so well with my producer and the engineer that I work with that it never seems like work! We are just cracking jokes and having fun while I'm recording my songs which makes the environment so much better to create music in. I absolutely love being in the studio because what I work on begins to materialize, and that is one of my favorite parts of creating music!
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? I also go to business school full time! And in my vacations, I give back by working as a soccer coach, something else I am very passionate about.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why? In the music scene today, I really admire The Weekend. I have been such a huge fan of his for years, and his style is truly great. I love that a lot of his tracks are really 80's inspired, and that he isn't afraid to modernize tempos from that era. His musical ability and creativity when it comes to making his albums is just amazing, and I would love to be able to learn even a little bit about his process and musical genius.
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? "Dancing In The Rain" is on my new EP and is 100% the most emotional song I have had to write. I was going through an extremely difficult period, and it is hard to find the right words to express those feelings along with creating a melody that doesn't feel forced. I hope people will be able to hear the raw emotion when the song is released on the 4th of August.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year? Yes! I have my first EP, "Anika," coming out August 4th, which I am beyond excited about! I have been religiously working on this project for over two years, and I can't wait to finally share it with the world! One of my singles, Make Me Wanna, will also be the lead song in a movie, Easter Bloody Easter, coming out next April.
